The Show was a great success! Thank you very much to IAM, Bonnie Mancini, Dan Swartz, Robin Kang, Wunderkammer Company, and Space 38/39, for making this show possible!

Link To IAM Gallery 38/39 Space

As part of their mission to revitalize communities through contemporary art, Wunderkammer Company is interested in the innovation inherent to the collaborative process. To facilitate this, EX takes the Surrealist tradition of the Exquisite Corpse and creates an indirect collaboration between artist, curator, and administrator.

Inspired by The Exquisite Corpse parlor game, which was originally intended to provoke further creativity by removing sole authorship and pre-conceptions of form, EX will produce a vivid experience for its viewers, and facilitate new connections between the artists in disparate communities.

For the duration of its stay at IAM, there will be several corresponding events in celebration of Surrealist ideas and collaborative processes:

7p Friday March 9
Lecture - Dan Swartz on the ideas behind the show and Surrealism

7p Friday March 23
Colloquium - Lucy Collins tentatively interviewing Tove Hermanson on Surrealism's influence on Fashion

7p March 26
Film Screening - Beauty and the Beast
c.1946

Gallery Hours: Tuesday & Wednesday from 4:30-6, or by Appointment

Carousel Space Press Release:

"The process of “assembling” is a progression wherein the gathering and collecting of components builds for a common purpose, yet the pieces remain self-subsistent. In the art realm, the notion of assemblages builds on remix practices, which blur distinctions between invented and borrowed work. Similarly, the act of “assembling” refers to the congregation of individuals for such a common purpose, where the experience is the final product."
